This new, ground-breaking edited book brings together a series of “Insight” essays from Procure4Health, a multinational project connecting more than 100 procuring entities from 24 countries to address the opportunities and challenges of procuring innovation in healthcare.

Procure4Health built a living, breathing community of procurement practice. A space where public buyers, procurement law experts, healthcare innovation agencies and academics could learn from each other, develop shared tools and translate policy into action.

Through this book, the authors now share that experience and learning widely, providing a practical guide to innovation procurement that will be of interest to the public health procurement community, health care provider organisations, industry suppliers, innovation experts and anyone interested in the development and procurement of innovation in healthcare.

Addressing key health system priorities: environmental sustainability, digital transformation, integrated care, and personalised medicine; the book includes chapters on Value-Based Procurement and the effective identification of innovation need in practice. The authors placed a particular focus on practical implementation with real world examples, enabling peer learning and fostering cross-functional collaboration.

Procure4Health was funded through the Horizon EU programme, and the authors thank the EU commission for recognising the importance of the project and investing in it. This book is a chance to share in the extensive knowledge created through the project and will be an invaluable handbook for everyone involved in healthcare transformation and the creation of greater value through public procurement.
