Why 'sea pen'?

A sea pen is a colonial invertebrate marine animal, which can be found in both shallow and deep waters from polar seas to the tropics.

We chose this name because of the sea pen's resemblance to a quill pen, the ecological role a sea pen plays in increasing biodiversity, and the fact that each sea pen is a colony of polyps (small anemone-like individuals) working together for the survival of the whole.
